Product Review: Seasoned Skewers
April 3, 2007 |
A few days ago, I wrote about a nifty cooking-related gadget (if a stick can be called a gadget, that is) I ran across, while cruising through Cyberspace. This ingenious little product is a seasoned skewer. Follow this link to read the original post.
John, from FamousFoods.com, was kind enough to send out a complimentary 10 pack of Honey Bourbon seasoned skewers. (Thank you, again, John!)
Both my husband and I drooled, in anticipation.
As luck would have it, we just happened to have a Pork Shoulder Roast, in the freezer. Little did we know, that ordinary piece of meat would shortly be transformed into, probably, the best pork we’ve made at home.
We cooked the lightly seasoned roast, in the oven, just as we normally would. The only thing we did different was to insert two skewers, lengthwise, into the roast about 3 inches apart. This was done 20 minutes prior to putting the roast in the oven.
We also skewered 4 red-skinned, Yukon gold, potatoes 20 minutes before baking.
All we can say is BUY THESE SKEWERS!!!!! The meal was delicious! The first bite I took made me think of something I might order in a fancy restaurant. To me, the flavor was perfect. My husband, on the other hand, thought it was a bit intense and suggested we use only one skewer, next time.
The potatoes were excellent, as well. Next time I’m going to bake extras to use the next day… either in potatoes salad or just to fry.
An added bonus of using these seasoned skewers is this… they make your house smell wonderful.
We are anxious to utilize several other flavors of seasoned skewers and have compiled quite a large list of recipes that we plan on trying.
If you decide to make a purchase, feel free to send in your favorite skewer recipe. I’ll be happy to post them, for others to enjoy.
