Google Offers Free Lunch
May 3, 2007 |
Google ranks #1 on FORTUNE magazine’s 100 Best Companies To Work For 2007, list. One of the many reasons for this is the fact that employees working at corporate headquarters, in Mountain View, CA., can (and do) eat for free.
I’m not talking burgers and fries, here. Google runs 11 cafeterias, on the complex. Each one of the restaurants, offer full-fledged gourmet meals… breakfast, lunch and dinner! In addition to the cafeteria fare, Google also provides snack rooms, where employees can munch on things such as fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, candy, nuts, soda and cappuccino.
Employee’s who find themselves suddenly craving ice cream can opt for an authentic Google ice cream sandwich. Yummy vanilla ice cream, sandwiched between two old-fashioned oatmeal cookies, dipped in chocolate. Need I say more?
For the most part, each cafeteria offers a very healthy, organic, not-cafeteria-ish, menu. Many of the ingredients used, are purchased locally. Every Google Chef has the freedom to be creative, when it comes to meal planning. On average, 200 recipes are utilized, daily.
Examples of menu items include: tropical shrimp bisque, eggplant ratatouille and scallops in green curry sauce.
(Google’s original Chef, Charlie Ayres, made a name for himself as a caterer, for the Grateful Dead. Pretty cool, huh?)
In my book, Google is truly raising the bar, when it comes to corporate food-service standards. All I can say is… I wanna work for Google!

That is amazing. I want to work there too. How many people do they employ?
That’s really nice. I usually use Google when I’m searching for something.
